Sunday June 27th, Afternoon Picnic in the Summer Sun

Forthcoming Goring Gap News article by Jim Ross.

When one thinks of the quintessential English summer, ideas come to mind of walks along a riverbank, beautiful views across the countryside and family picnics on the village green with children playing and the unmistakeable sounds of a cricket match for percussion. Fortunately Goring is such a beautiful place that it can host all these attributes within its natural environment.

On June 27th Goring Cricket Club hold their annual Twenty20 Cric-Nic day involving the 1st XI taking on the President’s invitational team of ex-players. The cricket takes second fiddle to the day as the club sees this as an opportunity to create a family experience which is at the heart of its dynamic. It is a day that provides nothing more than an excuse to pack a picnic and cold drinks and meet friends and family on the green for idle fun and games in the summer sun where all are welcome. The cricket club do not use it as a vehicle for funds so finance for once becomes peacefully irrelevant.

The Gardiner Rec hosts the event with masses of space, a bouncy castle, the playground and (of course) the cricket nets will be in full swing for anybody who wants to have a go or discuss joining the club at any level. Goring Cricket Club is in a state of splendid growth at the moment boasting a professional coach at both the senior level and overseeing the hugely successful junior Academy. It provides a friendly, unintimidating chance to be part of a thriving, social and sporting circle.

So pack your picnics and come to the cricket pitch between 12 and 6 on Sunday 27th June. Your love or hate of cricket is peripheral, the day is all about showing what living in a beautiful village such as Goring can offer and what you can enjoy from it. We welcome you and hope to see you there. For any further day or club information please contact Toby Tomlinson on 07949081951.
